There are mainly three types of skin cancer (skin neoplasia) which are classified by the types of epidermal cells involved.
1.Basal cell carcinoma (non-melanoma skin cancer)
Basal cell carcinoma is considered as most common(about 3 out of 4 non-melanoma skin cancers diagnosed are this type) and least dangerous form of skin cancer.Basal cell carcinoma develops in the basal, or bottom, layer of the epidermis. It is red, pale or pearly in colour.
Basal cell carcinoma grows slowly, rarely spreads(metastasize) but can recur, usually on the head, neck and upper torso region of people but can seen also on back or lower legs and these are the areas usually exposed to sunlight. It can damage and disfigure the eye, ear, or nose if it grows nearby.
It is most often seen in people of middle or old age.It may form an ulcer as it grows.
Basal cell carcinoma (non-melanoma skin cancer) appears as a round or flattened lump or scaly area.
If Basal cell carcinoma are left untreated then they can damage the skin and cause rodent ulcer which may come back on the same area of skin also after treatment.
It is usually diagonised by performing a biopsy and examine for cancer cell.
